Honoring Barbara Shack
Barbara Shack
Barbara Shack served as the Chairperson of NARAL Pro-Choice New York for a decade and has beenan active member of the organization for more than twenty years. Barbara has made it her life's work to protect and defend the rights of all New Yorkers. She was the Associate Director and Legislative Director of the New York Civil Liberties Union and was a co-founder and chairperson of the New York State Coalition for Choice. She was a founder of New Yorkers Against the Death Penalty, served on its Board and chaired its Political Action Committee. She was a founding member of the New York State Task Force onLife and the Law on which she served for thirty years. She was appointed to several judicial screening committees including the New York State Judicial Nominations Commission for the Court of Appeals, chaired the New York State Committee on Open Government, was a member of the Department Disciplinary Committee of the Appellate Division, First Department, of the New York State Supreme Court and was a member of the New York State Commission on the Status of Women. She represented the Women's Bar Association of the State of New York as its legislative counsel and chaired the Task Force on Bio-Ethics of the American Jewish Congress.

She was named by Politico as one of 50 influencers to watch in 2013.
