Honoree: U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand

In 2010, when anti-choice members of Congress tried to strip women of private insurance coverage for abortion,Senator Kirsten Gillibrand of New York was oneof the first to say “no,” not on her watch. In 2011, when those anti-choice politicians tried to turn back the clock on a woman’s right to choose, again, Senator Gillibrand said “no.”

Her leadership and dedication to protecting women’s access to reproductive health care make Senator Gillibrand our 2011 Champion of Choice. Senator Gillibrand has proudly served the people of New York since 2007, when she was first elected Congresswoman from the 20th district. She won election to the U.S. Senate last year with 63% of the vote.

Not only is Senator Gillibrand committed to reproductive rights, she is focused on rebuilding the economy, advocating for open and honest government and closing the pay gap between men and women. She has made her presence felt in Washington, helping lead the fight to repeal "Don't Ask Don't Tell," and passing legislation to provide healthcare for the 9/11 first responders that are sick from toxins at Ground Zero.

We made this video in honor of Senator Gillibrand's steadfast commitment to being a leader in reproductive health and rights.
